The PEM Charitable Trust have donated £1500 to Jimmy’s Cambridge, a local charity with the vision ‘that no-one should have to sleep rough’.
Their objective is to relieve poverty amongst persons in Cambridgeshire, who are homeless or vulnerably housed. They provide safe places that people can call home, including their 25 room hostel on East Road, or longer term spaces in shared houses or modular homes. Jimmy’s also provide targeted, wraparound support to help promote physical and mental wellbeing, so residents can fulfill their goals.
Jimmy’s applied to the PEM Charitable Trust for funding for their new project titled ‘Project Bridge’. The idea of this project is to maintain contact with ex-residents to reduce loneliness and isolation, aiming to increase the chance of maintaining successful independence. The funding allows support workers to set aside time to call or visit ex-residents, including offering the opportunity for days out such as a visit to the seaside, a barbeque or a craft day.
The PEM Charitable Trust have solely funded this project, which means without the money, this project would not be able to go ahead.
The team at PEM had the pleasure of meeting CEO Natasha and Project Manager Carol at Jimmy’s base on Newmarket Road last month to hear more about the wonderful work the charity carries out, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Natasha Davies, CEO of Jimmy’s commented:
‘This incredibly generous donation from the PEM Charitable Trust will directly benefit our residents and ex-residents, enabling us to keep in touch and continue to support people who are experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping with their onward journey’s towards independence and a better life. Project Bridge enables us to offer ongoing outreach support, a shared meal or activity, a simple check in, or time spent going for a coffee or supporting shopping to help continue to build confidence. We are hugely appreciative to PEM, and thank you for your support.’
